HCL Technologies has taken legal action against Atos, a French IT firm, for copyright infringement related to software assets acquired from IBM in 2018. The US court partially granted HCL’s claim, confirming the magistrate judge’s findings. HCL seeks $132 million in damages from Atos for using DX and Domino software without permission. HCL alleges that Atos benefited from these products without compensating HCL. The court documents reveal that HCL became the sole owner of these software assets following the acquisition from IBM, giving them the right to sue for infringement. Atos has not commented on the ongoing legal case.
