Apple Inc., known for its relatively stable workforce, has recently made a significant reduction in its digital services group. This move, which affected approximately 100 employees, marks a shift in priorities for the company’s crucial services division.

Apple lays off 100 employees, on Tuesday. This happened in different teams under Senior Vice President Eddy Cue’s services group. While Apple didn’t say why, it’s clear they’re thinking again about what’s important in the digital world.

One of the most notable areas impacted by the layoffs was the team responsible for the Apple Books app and Apple Bookstore. This hints that Apple might be changing its plans in this area maybe to focus on other digital services.

Other teams affected by the cuts included those involved in Apple News. However, it’s important to note that this doesn’t mean Apple is less interested in news content.

Apple doesn’t often lay off workers, but this isn’t the first time it’s happened in 2024. Earlier this year, Apple closed down its self-driving car project and stopped working on microLED displays, which led to job losses.

Even with these reductions, Apple’s services segment remains a key driver of growth for the company. During the latest fiscal year, services made up over 22% of Apple’s revenue, an increase from under 10% ten years ago.
