The BCCI has introduced a new player replacement rule for IPL 2025. This rule will help franchises that have players unavailable for the rest of the season. Many Australian players will not return due to international cricket schedules.

According to the new rule, franchises can sign temporary replacement players. However, these players cannot be retained for the next IPL season. They will go back to the auction pool. A BCCI official confirmed this change.

Delhi Capitals have already used this rule. They signed Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk. Rahman is a left-arm medium pacer from Bangladesh.

Several other Australian players might also be unavailable. For Punjab Kings, Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis will definitely not return. The chances of Aaron Hardie and Xavier Bartlett playing are uncertain (50-50). Punjab Kings will play Rajasthan Royals on Sunday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Delhi Capitals will play Gujarat Titans on Sunday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

This new IPL player replacement rule provides flexibility to the IPL franchises. They can find suitable players to fill the gaps caused by the absence of key players. Even though these replacements are temporary, they can significantly contribute to the team’s performance in the current season. This ensures that the competition remains strong despite player unavailability.
