Jaipur, August 13, 2024: Ishan Kishan, the explosive wicketkeeper-batter, is set to make a comeback to red-ball cricket. He will captain Jharkhand in the upcoming Buchi Babu tournament, a pre-season red-ball competition starting on August 15 in Tamil Nadu.
Kishan’s last first-class match was in July 2023 during India’s West Indies tour. He missed the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy due to mental exhaustion and was subsequently dropped from the BCCI’s central contracts list.
A Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) official said, “Ishan’s ability was never in doubt. It was his readiness to return that mattered. He expressed his desire to play, so we included him in the team.”
The Buchi Babu tournament marks Kishan’s first step towards a potential Ranji Trophy return in the 2024-25 season. However, reclaiming his spot in the Indian Test team will be a challenge. Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel are currently ahead of him in the pecking order.
