Udaipur, Rajasthan: Communal tensions flared in the city of Udaipur on Friday, August 16, 2024, following a stabbing incident between two school students. The incident occurred at around 10:30 AM under the jurisdiction of Surajpole police station.
The two students, from different communities, were involved in a fight that escalated into violence. One student stabbed the other with a knife, leaving the injured student in stable condition at a local hospital.
Following the stabbing, right-wing groups called for a shutdown of shops in the market area. The situation quickly deteriorated as a mob set fire to vehicles and pelted stones. However, authorities were able to bring the situation under control.
The student who committed the stabbing was apprehended by the police. District Collector Arvind Poswal assured the public that the city is now peaceful and that the injured student is receiving the best possible medical care. He urged people to avoid spreading rumors and to cooperate with the authorities.
Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena also confirmed that the situation has been largely brought under control. He expressed his deep concern over the incident and emphasized the need for peace and order in the city.
