New Delhi, August 2024: The 10th National Handloom Day will be celebrated on August 7, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. This year’s event will witness the conferment of the prestigious Sant Kabir and National Handloom Awards to talented weavers by the Vice President of India.
The day commemorates the Swadeshi Movement of 1905, which championed indigenous industries, especially handlooms. National Handloom Day aims to highlight the significance of the handloom sector in India’s cultural, traditional, and economic landscape.
Highlights of the Celebrations:
- Award Ceremony: The government will honor renowned weavers for their exceptional contributions to the handloom industry.
- Publication Launch: The Vice President will release an award catalog and a coffee table book. Titled “Parampara – Sustainability in Handloom Traditions of India.”
- National Level Celebrations: The government will organize exhibitions, fashion shows, and awareness programs across the country.
- Social Media Campaign: MyGov campaign launched. Public engagement through pledges, selfies, contests, and quizzes.
- Student Engagement: Over 10,000 students from Delhi schools will participate in the “Know Your Weaves” event at the Crafts Museum.
