Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has launched a new stipend incentive policy for medical professionals / Doctors. Speaking at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla, the Chief Minister announced a significant increase in the monthly stipends for resident doctors. The state government aims to improve healthcare services through these financial measures.

Stipends and Duty Hours
The Chief Minister confirmed that these changes will apply from the next budget. The Himachal government raised the stipend for Senior doctors Resident from ₹60,000 to ₹1 Lakh. For super-specialty departments, the amount increased from ₹1 Lakh to ₹1.3 Lakh.
The administration also addressed the issue of long working hours. Previously, resident doctors often worked shifts of up to 36 hours. Now, the government has limited duty hours to a maximum of 12 hours. This measure ensures that doctors get adequate rest.

Infrastructure and Facilities
CM Sukhu also focused on upgrading medical infrastructure. He sanctioned ₹5 crore each for five medical colleges to develop bone marrow transplant units. These institutions include IGMC, Tanda Medical College, and government colleges in Chamiyana, Mandi, and Hamirpur.
The CM allocated₹5 crore for new laparoscopic facilities and ₹6 crore for the Anaesthesia Department at IGMC. He also directed officials to fast-track the land transfer for a new student hostel. Finally, the state approved ₹75 crore for setting up smart labs in key hospitals to support modern diagnostics.
