The West Bengal Medical Counselling Committee (WBMCC) has indefinitely suspended the NEET UG 2025 counselling for MBBS and BDS courses. This decision leaves over 11,000 students awaiting admission. The halt comes after a period of uncertainty and legal challenges. The Round 1 seat allotment, originally scheduled for August 20, is now canceled.

Reasons Behind the Suspension

The suspension follows a series of events involving legal intervention. The Calcutta High Court had earlier directed a temporary stop to admissions and recruitments in the state. This was due to disputes regarding the Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation. The court later allowed the process to restart. The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) was instructed to release a new merit list. A revised list was published on August 16. However, the WBMCC’s latest notice puts the entire process on hold “until further orders.”

Impact on Students

The sudden suspension has left thousands of students and their families in a state of anxiety. These students were expecting to see their seat allotment results soon. Now, they have no clear timeline for when the process will resume. Political leaders have also voiced their concerns. They are questioning the reasons for the sudden halt. They also demand clarity from the state government. The future of medical aspirants in West Bengal is now uncertain. They are waiting for authorities to provide a new schedule and direction.
