The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a ‘Learning by Doing’ program in government schools. This initiative targets students from Classes 6 to 8. It aims to provide practical training in various fields.
The program aligns with the National Education Policy 2020. It focuses on linking education with employability and life skills. Modern labs are being set up in schools. These labs have 205 types of modern tools and apparatus.
- Students receive practical training in woodwork, metalwork, energy and environment, agriculture and horticulture, and health and nutrition.
- Science and mathematics teachers received four-day multi-skilling training. This prepares them to guide students for real-life challenges.
- A manual with 60 skill-based activities was developed. UNICEF and Vigyan Ashram provided technical support for this.
- In 2024-25, 2,274 upper primary and composite schools in 75 districts will get Learning by Doing (LBD) labs. The program will expand to another 3,288 schools in 2025-26.
- A pilot program in 60 schools across 15 districts trained 5,937 students. This led to increased student attendance and interest.
- The initiative promotes girls’ participation in engineering, electrical work, and workshop activities.
- The program supports the Skill India Mission by nurturing skilled, self-reliant citizens. It also instills respect for the dignity of labor.

This program, under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, reflects Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision. It aims to make Uttar Pradesh self-reliant and empowered. Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh noted its role in creating a strong and self-sustaining Uttar Pradesh.
