University Grant Commission (UGC) has announced the new “Curriculum and Credit Framework for the Post Graduate Programs”. It has some significant changes and provides more flexibility and mobility to students. The new framework will apply to all one-year and two-year programmes. This step of UGC will eliminate the discipline-specific entry barriers and most importantly offer an exit option after one year program. UGC chairman Prof. Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar thinks that it will be aligned with the goals of the National Education Policy – NEP 2020. Also, it will make Indian people more educated and knowledgeable.
Key Features of New Curriculum Framework for PG Programs By UGC
- Flexibility – It enables students to change from one discipline to another and select the course of their interest. Also, they can switch between offline, distance, hybrid or online learning models. The new framework also provides multiple entry and exit options which helps in lifelong learning.
- Credit- The credit requirements for both one-year and two-year postgraduate programs are outlined in this structure. For example, a minimum of 160 credits toward a bachelor’s degree with honours or honours with research qualifies the student for a one-year postgraduate program. Similar to this, a two-year PG program accepts 120 credits from a three-year bachelor’s degree. An integrated five-year bachelor’s and master’s program is also offered.
- Eligibility Criteria – Person born between July 03, 2004, to January 2008. Graduation degree with a minimum of 50% marks in total and in English also.
