Colleges and higher educational institutes in India can now admit students two times a year from this academic season. This decision was made by the UGC (University Grant Commission) to give more free hand to higher education institutes for admissions. Earlier only distance learning program has the biannual admission process. Students can be admitted in January – February and July- August.

UGC makes this bold decision so that colleges can increase their student intake and open new dimensions to higher education. As per the UGC, institutes have to make some changes for opening admission twice a year.

UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar said “If Indian institutes open the admission twice it will be a great help to students who failed to take admission due to any reason such as late result declaration, supplementary, health issue, personal reason. It will make students feel hopeful as they do not need to wait the whole year for admissions. Also, companies can hire from the campus twice a year with the help of biannual admissions. “
