Angad Daryani, an Indian-origin startup CEO, recently made headlines by sharing his concerns about the discrepancies in resumes of candidates from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and related experiences. Daryani’s company makes air purifiers. He interviewed people from three different IITs and said none of them had the skills they listed on their resumes.

  • Daryani shared his concerns on X, detailing three incidents involving IIT candidates from IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Bombay.
  • The first candidate, from IIT Kanpur, lacked proficiency in 95% of the skills listed on his resume, leading Daryani to question the quality of education and integrity at IITs.
  • The second incident involved an IIT Guwahati PhD candidate who lacked fundamental hands-on lab skills in chemical engineering, despite listing them on his resume.
  • The third incident involved an IIT Bombay graduate who joined Daryani’s company remotely, underwent training for 45 days, and then used the acquired knowledge to secure a job at a competitor.
  • Daryani clarified his “slip up” in identifying the institute of the first candidate, who was from IIT Kanpur and not IIT Kharagpur, but reiterated the importance of integrity and honesty in the recruitment process.
  • Daryani thinks colleges should be stricter with students and make sure they’re honest about their skills on resumes. He also offered ideas to help schools prepare students better for the real world and the kind of jobs they’ll be applying for.

Angad Daryani Clarifies Intent Behind Deleted Twitter Post

“Since too many media outlets picked up on my Twitter (X) post recently and are writing articles on it (and I hope it doesn’t go any further), I’m sharing this here as a clarification – I have deleted this post from Twitter (X) because it’s become IIT bashing rather than what it was intended to be”. Said Angad Daryani

Angad Daryani clarifies his intent behind the deleted Twitter post, saying he wants job applicants to be honest. He also wants colleges to help students make honest resumes. Daryani admitted he made a mistake about a student’s college and is ready to help them improve their resumes. He believes India’s job market will offer opportunities for hardworking people.
