Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is set to host its 27th Convocation on Sunday, July 13, 2025. A total of 2093 degrees will be awarded to graduating students this year. This includes 1005 Undergraduate, 818 Postgraduate, and 270 PhD degrees.
Dr. Rajendra Singh, D. Houser Banks Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University, USA, will serve as the Chief Guest. He will deliver the Convocation Address, offering insights to the graduating class. J.D. Patil, President of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, will be the Guest of Honor.
Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, expressed pride in the students’ achievements. He highlighted the Institute’s increasing contribution to science, technology, and nation-building.
The Institute will also present four prestigious Gold Medals:
- President’s Gold Medal
- Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal
- Governor of Assam Gold Medals (Undergraduate category)
- Governor of Assam Gold Medals (Postgraduate category)

Since its first convocation in 1999, IIT Guwahati has come a long way. Initially, only 63 students graduated. Over the past 26 years, the Institute has conferred degrees upon more than 24,700 students. This consistently marks a significant milestone in India’s educational landscape. Each year, a new group of graduates celebrates this academic accomplishment.
