The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is emphasizing the importance of careful assessment during practical exams. This comes after identifying a significant difference in marks between theory and practical subjects for a large number of students in hundreds of schools.

The board used advanced AI tools to analyze past exam results. They found that in over 500 CBSE-affiliated schools, at least half of the students had a substantial difference in marks between theory and practical subjects.

CBSE issued an advisory to these schools, urging them to review their internal assessment procedures. The goal is to establish a more robust, transparent, and reliable system for evaluating practical exams.

“This is a reminder to prioritize fairness and accuracy when assessing practical exams,” said CBSE secretary Himanshu Gupta. “This will ultimately improve the quality of education offered by CBSE schools.”

This initiative follows the recent announcement of CBSE regarding the revision of class size limits. This change is intended to better accommodate students joining mid-year or needing to repeat a grade.
