The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has refuted recent media reports claiming it expressed limitations in conducting Bi-Annual CBSE Board Exams.
- CBSE firmly denies reports stating its disapproval of bi-annual board exams to the Ministry of Education.
- The Board clarified on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that these claims are “totally incorrect” and have no basis in official communication.
National Curriculum Framework and Bi-Annual Exams
- The New National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, proposes a semester system for Classes 11 and 12.
- This framework also recommends offering students the option to take board exams twice a year.
Previous Attempts at Exam Reform
- The CBSE has experimented with exam structures in the past.
- The Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) for Class 10, introduced in 2009, was later revoked in 2017.
- CBSE split Classes 10 and 12 board exams into two terms to manage the pandemic’s disruption. But this was a temporary solution. This format is no longer in place.
Whether bi-annual board exams become a reality remains to be seen. The CBSE‘s clarification assures continued focus on implementing the NEP and NCF for India’s educational landscape.
