BITS Pilani Launches Centre for Research Excellence in National Security

BITS Pilani National Security Centre

Hyderabad: Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has launched a new Centre for Research Excellence in National Security (CRENS) at the Hyderabad campus. The initiative aims to strengthen India’s security capabilities through indigenous technology development.

Centre for Research Excellence in National Security (CRENS) will focus on three key areas: 

  • Develop specialized courses
  • Conduct cutting-edge research
  • Promote innovation in defense and related sectors. 

By collaborating with government agencies, defense PSUs, and industry partners, the Center will address critical national security challenges.

Former DRDO chief Dr. G.,  Satheesh Reddy, and former scientific adviser to the Defence Minister were present at the Centre for Research Excellence in National Security (CRENS) inauguration ceremony.

Dr. Reddy emphasized the importance of new technologies to counter emerging threats. Other dignitaries, including representatives of the armed forces and police, highlighted the need for collaboration between academia, industry, and government.

He highlighted the geographical advantage of CRENS being located on the Hyderabad campus, which allows it to collaborate with many institutions of national importance in and around Hyderabad.

Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, while sharing the strategic focus of CRENS, which is divided into three important verticals

  • Offering hybrid courses to enhance skills in national security.
  • Conducting research for practical solutions for soldiers.
  • Promoting innovation through defense and space startups.

BITS Pilani aims to position CRENS as a hub for research, skill development, and entrepreneurship in the national security domain. It contributes to India’s self-reliance in this critical area.
