Allegations and Controversies
Manisha’s family alleged:
- The police refused to register a missing complaint initially and mistreated them.
- Her body was found with severe injuries, including acid burns and torn clothes.
- CCTV footage from the nursing college was not shared promptly.
Police stated a suicide note was found in her bag, matching her handwriting. They said the family was aware of its existence. The family, however, has denied this and continues to protest.
Family’s Demands
The grieving family demanded:
- A second post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi
- A CBI investigation into the case
- Strict action against the officers who ignored their pleas
Loharu SDM Manoj Kumar Dalal spoke to the media after the funeral. He confirmed that Manisha’s last rites were completed. He said the family had demanded a CBI inquiry. The SDM assured them that the government and CBI would take action against the culprits. The family concluded their protests after receiving these assurances.
Haryana Government Actions & Initiatives in the Manisha Case
Internet Suspension in Bhiwani & Charkhi Dadri
To maintain law and order and stop the spread of rumours, the Haryana government suspended mobile internet, bulk SMS, and dongle services in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts for 48 hours. Later, the suspension was extended as tensions grew.
Administrative Transfers and Suspensions
The government held local police accountable. The Superintendent of Police (SP) was transferred, and the SHO, along with several ASIs, were suspended for negligence in handling the case.
Third-Party Post-Mortem & Investigation
After the family demanded an impartial probe, a third post-mortem was carried out at AIIMS Delhi, in addition to those done earlier in Bhiwani and PGIMS Rohtak. A forensic panel was also formed to examine the so-called suicide note and related evidence.
CBI Inquiry
Responding to public pressure and the family’s demand, the state government handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to ensure a transparent inquiry.
Public and Community Reaction
Mass protests took place across Dadri, Loharu, Badhra, Jind, and nearby areas. Locals demanded strict punishment for the accused and organised dharnas, market shutdowns, and candle marches.
The family believes that justice must be ensured not just for Manisha but for every woman who faces violence. Haryana Women’s Commission also urged people to trust medical reports while supporting a transparent investigation.
