X has initiated measures to restrict certain political posts in India, following the Election Commission’s directive. The policy aims to ensure fair election practices and curb misinformation.

Posts containing political speeches from elected politicians, political parties, and candidates for office in India have been removed.
X expressed disagreement with the commission’s directives and urged the Election Commission to make public all of its takedown orders moving forward.
The move comes as India gears up for the world’s most extensive electoral process. Which is set to commence on Friday.
X has complied with the orders and withheld the posts for the remainder of the election period, despite its disagreement with the order.
In a statement posted to the platform, X said, “In compliance with the orders, we have withheld these posts for the remainder of the election period. However, we disagree with these actions and maintain that freedom of expression should extend to these posts and political speech”.
The posts made unverified claims about the private lives of their opponents.
X has urged the Election Commission to make public all of its takedown orders moving forward.
The policy reflects X’s commitment to upholding electoral integrity amidst the digital age’s challenges.
