Lord Krishna’s Blessing: Janmashtami Sales Hit Rs 25,000 Crore

Delhi: People celebrated Janmashtami with much pomp and grandeur across the country on Monday. Leading to a turnover of over Rs 25,000 crore, according to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).

CAIT national general secretary and Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal said the Janmashtami saw massive sales, especially of items like flowers, fruits, sweets, goddess costumes, decorative items, vrat sweets, milk, curd, and butter. And dry fruits. Khandelwal said, “Festivals like Janmashtami are an important part of the Sanatan economy, which strengthens the country’s economy.”

CAIT National President B.C. Bhartia said that Janmashtami is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country, especially in North and West India. The temples were attractively decorated, attracting huge crowds. He highlighted special attractions like digital tableaux, a selfie point with Lord Krishna, and other delightful displays. There were many hymns, bhajans, religious dances, and sermons of saints and sages in the cities. Various social organizations also organized Janmashtami celebrations on a large scale.

People celebrate Janmashtami on the eighth day of the Bhadrapada fortnight, as scriptures indicate it marks the birth of Lord Krishna.

Earlier this month, CAIT had estimated Janmashtami sales trade across the country at over Rs 12,000 crore during the Rakhi festival. Business during the Rakhi festival reached approximately Rs 7,000 crore in 2022. Rs 6,000 crore in 2021, and Rs 5,000 crore in 2020. Rs 3,500 crore in 2019, and Rs 3,000 crore in 2018 as per Khandelwal. The trade body reported a large crowd shopping in the markets. People are very excited about the festival.
