Radha Ashtami is a Hindu festival that marks the birth of Goddess Radha, the beloved consort of Lord Krishna. It falls on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the bright half of the Bhadrapada month (August–September), about 15 days after Krishna Janmashtami.
Radha Ashtami is celebrated to honour Radha’s deep devotion and love for Krishna, which symbolizes pure, selfless love and spiritual connection. Devotees believe that remembering Radha’s qualities can help in personal growth and devotion. Temples, especially in Vrindavan and Barsana, hold special prayers, bhajans, and processions. Fasting and reading of Radha-Krishna stories are common observances during the day.
Radha is not worshipped just as a deity, but as a symbol of the soul’s longing for the divine.
